Rogers Anniversary Program Nothing worse than a loyalty program that fails! I know there are a lot of them out there [Aeroplan take note] but the Rogers one is actually broken. Here is how it goes. 1] I recieve an email saying “
Dear JOHN-PAUL HOLECKA,
As a token of our appreciation for your business, we’re delighted to offer you a FREE gift,
just for being a loyal Rogers customer. Choose from:”
2] I click the site link.
3] I get a Windows SQL server error.
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error ‘80004005’
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionWrite (send()).]General network error. Check your network documentation.
/includes/rogers_top_menu.inc, line 20
4] Get frustrated and curse the name of the provider.
As someone that works in the online space I know what happened and am willing to go back and try again later [everyone clicked the site link at roughly the same time and the site could not handle it.]. But others may not return and will feel negative feelings towards the brand.
Moral of the story? Test, test test before you deploy a campaign. A lot of hard work that when ito the planning of the campaign is now lost. Why did this happen? I have seen it before the deadline are looming and someone cuts a corner on testing. It doesn’t matter what the test is and in this case it is load balancing and in others I have seen the images links not work and a second email has to go out a few minutes later with the corrections made. In an email campaign you have to test period because there is no magic recall button to hit.
****UPDATE**** It took the better part of a day before the system would process my gift. All that for 1gig MiniSD card and adapter!
