There seems to be a great big flap over the new Microsoft ads that are running! Boom! Mission accomplished in my opinion. There are all kind of pundants, bloggers and podcasters weighing in and trying to make heads or tales of these non-sensical ads. All that CP&B are trying to do is stop you from actually thinking about the shitty Windows products and get a warm fuzzy feeling for Jerry and Bill. If you even smile once during the spots then they have achieved the campaign objective.
The funny thing is both the agency and Jerry are both known Mac users so they would not be able to speak “honestly” about the cool feature etc. of Windows so they just avoid the subject all together by creating this crazy world of nonsense that Jerry and Bill are exploring.
The formula of a soap is universally appealing and the second a new ad appears on the television I bet 8 out of 10 people stop to see what madcap adventures they are up to now and what “sign” Bill will give Jerry to let him know that Microsoft is up to something crazy in the future.
They are giving the giant faceless omni corp a fun and crazy identity. So next time you might pause a beat and think twice about cursing the blue screen of death that has just erased hours of late night spread sheet work you where about to save to the c/drive.
